A german teacher at a southern suburbs school exposed himself over the internet to a police officer who was pretending to be a 13-year-old girl, a court has heard.
Ralf Armin-Grimm, 62, had pleaded guilty to three counts of communicating with the intention of procuring a child and one aggravated count of possessing child pornography at Hillbank in April and May this year.
In sentencing submissions on Thursday, prosecutor Ceit Deane said Armin-Grimm had used an online chat site to instruct who he thought was a young girl how to perform sexual acts.
Ralf Armin-Grimm outside the District court in December when he pleaded guilty.
She said police searched his backpack at the school and found a zip drive with child pornography images.
“Armin-Grimm was responsible for the care and protection of children of the same age as he was communicating with (over the internet),” she said.
“As a teacher he had a heightened awareness of the requirement to protect those children and that, in my submission, aggravates his offending.”
The court heard the images were not of any students from the school Armin-Grimm taught at.
Tim Heffernan, for Armin-Grimm, said his client had sought professional help for his “exhibitionism” and would benefit from a suspended jail sentence.
“His ultimate aim is rehabilitation and I submit this offending was an aberration,” he said.
Judge Sydney Tilmouth remanded him on continuing bail to be sentenced later this month.
